Nourishing the Healer Within

Do you wish you were healthier or in better shape? Would you like to be happier? Are you trying to be a kinder, better person? Do you want to improve your eating habits? Most of us at different points throughout our lives would like to improve in many of these areas. Sometimes, though, it is hard to know where to start. Maybe you have made a new year’s resolution to improve your life in some way but are losing motivation or having trouble figuring out how to really make changes in your life. If you are looking for a book to read that will help give you motivation to change and specific guidelines on how to change, we recommend that you try reading Nourishing the Healer Within by Karen D. Gilroy.

Author Karen Gilroy maintains that the best healer we can have is the healer within ourselves. “I say to my clients, ‘ask not what your doctor can do for you, but what you can do for your doctor.’ In other words, what can you do to heal yourself?” (p. 11). Gilroy believes in taking care of and supporting your body so that it can heal itself.

In Nourishing the Healer Within, Karen Gilroy focuses on three main topics: The mind, the body, and the spirit. She shares her personal experiences, thoughts, and insights on each of these subjects as well as what she has learned from other people and resources.

The Mind: Have faith. Keep your thoughts positive. Focus on what you want, and make it a reality. Don’t let other people drag you down.

The Body: Eat healthy. Get plenty of sleep. Exercise. Take time to get well when you are sick. Avoid exposure to toxins.

The Spirit: Let go of anger. Forgive. Show love and compassion. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Have faith in God and in your ability to succeed. Look at each challenge in life as an opportunity for growth.

Throughout each of these sections, Gilroy gives specific guidelines. For example, she discusses the benefits of properly combining the foods you eat for each meal so that your body can digest them better and you can avoid heartburn and other discomforts, tells you exactly which foods you should and should not eat together, and includes a number of recipes in the back of the book. She also suggests how essential oil use can help in each of these categories and provides specifics about the uses of a number of different oils.

This book is an excellent resource for anyone looking to take charge of their mental, physical, or spiritual health and become their own healer.

We are giving away a signed copy of this book right now on Facebook. Visit our Facebook page now to enter this contest and have a chance to read this great book for yourself!
