Essential Oil–Scented Bubbles

Essential Oil–Scented Bubbles

Servings: Yield = 8 oz. | Time: 10 minutes active; 12–24 hours inactive | Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup water (Distilled water works best, but tap water can be used as well.)
  • 1/4 cup unscented dish soap
  • 1 Tbsp. liquid glycerin
  • 15–20 drops essential oil
  • 8 oz. plastic bottle or several 4 oz. or 2 oz. plastic bottles.

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl or cup, mix together your desired essential oil or blend and the unscented dish soap. Allow to sit for a few minutes.
  2. Add liquid glycerin, and mix together.
  3. Add the soap and essential oil mixture to the water in a mixing bowl.
  4. Stir the mixture carefully until everything is blended together (do not whisk or stir rapidly, or you’ll end up making a lot of froth).
  5. Pour mixture into an 8 oz. plastic bottle or into several 4 oz. or 2 oz. plastic bottles.
  6. Allow mixture to sit for 12–24 hours to allow it to meld together.
  7. To use the mixture, use standard bubble wands dipped into the bottles; or pour the mixture into a shallow bowl or pan, and use different shaped cookie cutters, pipe cleaners formed into loops, straws, or anything else you desire to blow the bubbles with.

Extra Ideas

  • Create fun labels for your bubbles using 2″ x 4″ labels, or create gift tags to go on your bubbles. Make several different “flavors” of bubbles, and create a gift basket of bubbles and blowing devices to give as gifts.
  • This formula works really well for making large-sized bubbles. Experiment with different proportions of water, soap, and glycerin to give your bubbles different properties.
