Essential Oil Spotlight: Green Mandarin

Green mandarin essential oil common and other possible uses

Green Mandarin (Citrus nobilis) essential oil is cold pressed from the peel of green, unripened mandarin fruit. Distilling before ripening gives the oil a brighter, fresher aroma. The citrus aroma is sweet with herbal undertones. Green mandarin properties: anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, antispasmodic, antitumor, antiviral, expectorant, laxative, and sedative.

Common Primary Uses: Green mandarin can be used aromatically, topically, and internally for nausea and for soothing digestive system disorders generally. Research has found that the chemical constituent limonene—extremely high in green mandarin essential oil—can reduce symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) when taken internally.  The oil is also toning to the skin while applied topically. The aroma is effective for soothing strong emotions such as anger, grief, and shock—as is topical application. (For more uses, see Modern Essentials and Modern Essentials Handbook, 10th editions.)

Body Systems Affected: Digestive, emotional balance, immune, skin.
